Proximal tubular acidosis

Proximal renal tubular acidosis (PRTA) is also known as type II RTA. This disease is due to a defect in proximal renal tubular reabsorption of HCO3-, a decrease in renal HCO3--threshold, excessive loss of HCO3- in urine, and a decrease in HCO3-concentration in plasma resulting in hyperchloric acidosis.
