Colonic diverticula in the elderly
Colonic diverticulum refers to a diverticulum-like lesion formed by the hernia of the colonic mucosa passing through the defect of the intestinal wall, which can occur in any part of the intestine. Typical symptoms of diverticulitis include abdominal pain, fever, nausea, vomiting, bloating, constipation, and diarrhea. Because the sigmoid colon is the most common part of diverticulum, abdominal pain is mostly in the lower abdomen, especially the left lower abdomen. It can also be expressed at the midline of the lower abdomen or depending on the diverticulum.
