Duodenal congenital absence, atresia and stenosis

Obstruction of duodenum occurs during embryonic development, resulting in duodenal atresia or stenosis. The incidence is about 1 / 7,000 to 10,000 in babies born. It is more common in low birth weight infants. The stenosis ratio is approximately 3: 2. It accounts for 37 to 49% of all small bowel atresias. The incidence of combined deformities is higher.
