Splenomegaly in children
Enlargement of the spleen is a common sign in infants and children. It is generally found in systemic diseases such as infections, blood diseases, metabolic diseases, tumors, etc., and diseases limited to the spleen itself are rare. In acute infections, spleen congestion is often seen within a few days and can be touched under the left costal margin; chronic infection of the spleen is mainly due to proliferative infiltration. It should be noted that in most premature babies and 30% of full-term babies, the spleen can be felt immediately after birth, and only 15% of normal babies between 5 and 6 months can be touched, and generally cannot be touched thereafter, to 3 to 4 Only a handful of them can be reached at the age.
