Acute injury of the muscle tendon unit
Muscle tendon units include tendons, muscle abdomen, tendon stop structures, and accessory structures such as fascia and tendon sheaths. Muscle contraction generates strong stress during exercise, and antagonist muscles passively stretch. The tendon is composed of collagen fibers and does not have the ability to contract. Its role is to transmit the contractile force of the muscle to the bone tissue. The tendon fibers are corrugated at rest, and the corrugations disappear when stretched, and collagen fibers may be slightly damaged when stretched excessively, and even tendon rupture may occur.
