Pulmonary malaria
Pulmonary malaria is the damage to the lungs caused by Plasmodium. After being infected with Plasmodium, the body may or may not have the typical systemic symptoms of malaria, and obvious respiratory symptoms such as cough, sputum, shortness of breath, wheezing, or chest pain may occur. Its clinical manifestations include malarial asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, pulmonary edema, and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). No exact statistics are available on its incidence.
