Maxillary osteomyelitis in infants
Maxillary osteomyelitis in infants and young children is more common in newborns and children under 3 years of age. The infection mainly comes from blood-borne, traumatic and contact, rather than dental-sourced suppurative infection. Infants and young children have abundant blood flow to the upper jaw, thin branches of blood vessels, slow blood flow, and easy bacteria retention. Under the influence of various pathogenic factors, bacteria invade and breed in the bone marrow cavity of the maxilla and cause the suppurative inflammation when the body's resistance decreases.
