Viral hepatitis type D (viral hepatitis type D) is an acute and chronic liver inflammatory disease caused by hepadnaviruses such as hepatitis D virus (HDV) and hepatitis B virus. HDV is a defective virus and rarely has HDV infection alone. It can only exist in HBV-infected humans and certain hepatic DNA virus surface antigen-positive animals. The clinical manifestations of hepatitis D depend to some extent on the concomitant HBV infection status. HDV and HBV overlap infection can promote liver damage, and easily develop into chronic active hepatitis, cirrhosis and severe hepatitis. Hepatitis D is mainly transmitted through blood transfusions and blood products, similar to the way hepatitis B is transmitted.
