Small bile duct distortion
The bile duct is a tube through which the bile passes from the liver to the duodenum. Hepatocytes continuously make bile concentrate and store it in the gallbladder. When the fat enters the duodenum, it stimulates the bile to secrete bile intermittently to help break down the fat. Hyperplasia of the bile ducts is caused by distortion of the bile ducts after cirrhosis. Biliary cirrhosis is caused by long-term intrahepatic bile retention or extrahepatic bile duct obstruction. The former is called primary biliary cirrhosis, and the latter is called secondary biliary cirrhosis. Primary sex is more rare.
