Adolescent scoliosis

Idiopathic scoliosis in adolescents is relatively common. Adolescents in the age group of 10 to 16 years have an incidence of about 2% to 4%, and most of the degrees of scoliosis are small. In patients with scoliosis around 20 °, the ratio of men to women is basically equal; in those with scoliosis greater than 20 °, females: males exceed 5: 1. The fact that female scoliosis patients are more severe suggests that female scoliosis may be more likely to progress and they need treatment more than boys.
