Skin mucin deposition

Cutaneous mucinosis is a group of diseases characterized by diffuse or localized deposition of mucin in the skin. The dermal mucin exists in the matrix between collagens, mainly hyaluronic acid and acidic mucopolysaccharides. When mucin increases significantly, it is mildly basophilic, granular or fibrous under HE staining.
