Post cholecystectomy syndrome
Postcholecystectomy syndrome (PCS) is a general term for abdominal symptoms such as abdominal pain and indigestion that occur in patients with a history of cholecystectomy. Among patients with cholecystectomy, 20% to 40% of the symptoms persist after surgery, or recurrence or new symptoms occur after 2 to 3 months. In fact, it is not a true syndrome. There are many reasons for these symptoms and their clinical manifestations are different, including many biliary and non-biliary diseases, many of which are not related to cholecystectomy itself. This ldquo; pain of unknown origin rdquo; poor results with medical treatment.
