Hepatosplenomegaly

Hepatosplenomegaly means that both the liver and spleen are enlarged. The liver and spleen generally cannot be touched under the ribs. The liver and spleen can be touched only when the viscera sags or the diaphragm is lowered or inhaled deeply, but it does not exceed 1 cm below the ribs and has a soft texture. Hepatosplenomegaly is common in chronic hepatitis, typhoid fever, schistosomiasis, early liver cirrhosis, and leukemia; in granulocytic leukemia, high splenomegaly is seen. 
