Coin thrash test

The coin tap test is one way to check for pneumothorax or exudative pleurisy. Put a coin on your back and tap it with another coin. Stethoscope chest pieces are placed on symmetrical parts on both sides of the fore chest, and the thumping sound is more audible. The gas in the pleural space on the pneumothorax resonates, so a clear metal thump sound is heard, while the thump sound heard on the healthy side is blurred.
