Amniotic fluid uric acid
Metabolites in amniotic fluid include uric acid and urea. Before 6 months of pregnancy, the uric acid value in the amniotic fluid was similar to the maternal serum uric acid value; when the pregnancy was near full term, the uric acid value in the amniotic fluid was about twice the maternal serum uric acid value. Increased uric acid in amniotic fluid represents increased excretion in the urine and increased fetal muscle weight, which is one of the signs of fetal maturity.
