Erythrocyte aldolase
Aldolase is a general term for a class of enzymes that catalyze the aldol condensation reaction. It is one of the important enzymes in carbohydrate metabolism and glycolysis in the body. It is widely distributed in human tissues, most in the heart and liver. The main function is to decompose fructose 1,6 diphosphate into dihydroxyacetone phosphate and glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate, and decompose fructose 1-phosphate into dihydroxyacetone phosphate and glyceraldehyde. ALD is very high in red blood cells and platelets, so hemolysis should be avoided when sending samples for testing.
