Erythrocyte lactate dehydrogenase
Lactate dehydrogenase can reversibly catalyze the oxidation of lactic acid to pyruvate. The catalytic reaction is the final product of anaerobic glycolysis. This enzyme is widely present in the cytoplasm of cells in various tissues of the body. It is abundant, followed by liver, spleen, pancreas, brain, and lung. Normal serum contains LDH, and enzyme activity in most tissues is 1000 times higher than serum.
