Diabetic nephropathy in the elderly
Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is caused by diabetic microangiopathy, with early manifestations of microalbumin excretion in urine. This was followed by clinical proteinuria, which eventually developed into chronic renal insufficiency. End-stage renal disease is the leading cause of death in the elderly with diabetes.
