Semen carnitine
Carnitine in seminal plasma is mainly secreted by the epididymis, followed by seminal vesicles. The liver is the main site for carnitine synthesis. Carnitine in seminal plasma is divided into free carnitine and acetylcarnitine. The content of carnitine in seminal plasma is almost 10 times higher than that of plasma carnitine. The source of energy required for sperm to mature in the epididymis is related. When epididymis and seminal vesicle dysfunction occur, semen carnitine drops sharply. Therefore, the detection of carnitine in seminal plasma can be used as one of the indicators to understand epididymis and seminal vesicle function.
