Toe flexion contracture

Introduction

Introduction Trauma of contraction of the toes causing severe swelling of the foot, such as soft tissue contusion, calcaneus and tibiofibular fractures, can cause intrinsic ischemic necrosis of the foot, followed by a characteristic toe deformity.

Cause

Cause

Flexion contraction of the toes is a sign for a variety of reasons. In addition to the common calf muscle contracture caused by the contraction, it can also be caused by the internal muscle contracture.

Trauma that causes severe swelling of the foot, such as soft tissue contusion, calcaneus and tibial fractures, can cause intrinsic ischemic necrosis of the foot, followed by a characteristic toe deformity. Among them, the deep muscles of the soles have the most chance of involvement, such as the adductor muscles, and its contracture can cause the big toes to be pulled toward the lower side of the second toe or underneath, which makes the shoes and walking feel uncomfortable.

Diagnosis

Differential diagnosis

Foot pain when the toe is flexed and flexed: the foot scaphoid fracture symptoms are obvious when the toe is flexed and flexed. The middle ankle joint, which is composed of the foot scaphoid, the wedge bone and the tibia, is also called the transverse joint, which is easy to cause dislocation due to trauma. Although the above-mentioned simple bone fractures are not frequent, they are not uncommon. About 0.3% of all body fractures should still be noticed.

Congenital toe valgus foot: is a common posture foot deformity characterized by full back extension and valgus. More women than men, the ratio is about 1:0.6.

Claw-like toe: The toe is claw-shaped. This toe deformation affects the joint of the toes. Due to the imbalance of muscle or nerve tension, the metatarsophalangeal joint is overstretched, and the proximal and distal interphalangeal joints are bent and deformed. After the child is born, the foot extension and valgus deformity can be found. In severe cases, the back of the foot can be in contact with the skin in front of the tibia (Figure 1). At the same time, due to the increased tension of the dorsal and lateral soft tissues, the plantar flexion and varus activity are limited.

Apical dysfunction: ascending symmetry peripheral neuritis, sensory and dyskinesia, decreased muscle strength, muscle soreness, especially the gastrocnemius muscle. In some cases, foot and sag are found, and walking is a threshold gait.
