Goldmann Applanation Tonometry

The Goldmann applanation tonometer is the international "gold standard" tonometer used to measure intraocular pressure. It uses the pressure head to flatten the cornea for indirect intraocular pressure measurement. Use a sterile fluorescein paper strip to gently touch the inner surface of the sputum under the eye for 2~3 seconds, then remove the paper strip, or drop 0.25% sodium fluorescein eye drops. After blinking for 2 to 3 times, the tear film on the corneal surface is stained. You can start checking when you can blink. Basic Information Specialist Category: Ophthalmic Examination Category: Other Inspections Applicable gender: whether men and women apply fasting: not fasting Tips: Before taboos: Never hold your breath. Normal value The thickness of the tear film is proportional to the width of the edge of the pressing plane. Generally, when the tear film is thinner, the semicircular edge is narrower, which has little effect on the measured value; otherwise, the measured value is too high. Therefore, when the semicircular edge is large and wide, it means that the measuring head is not dry or there is too much tear, and the measuring head should be dried before measuring. Clinical significance Abnormal results When the pressure head is in contact with the cornea for too long or the cornea is edematous, epithelial staining may occur, resulting in unclear observation and inaccurate measurement. The examination should be stopped. Multiple measurements can make the measurement lower. People who need to check the population without corneal lesions can do it. Precautions Taboo before inspection: Never hold your breath. Requirements for inspection: relax emotions. Inspection process (1) 0.5% to 1% tetracaine eye drops 1~2 drops of eye for topical anesthesia. (2) Use the disinfecting fluorescein paper strip to gently touch the inner surface of the sputum under the eye for 2~3 seconds, then remove the paper strip, or drop 0.25% sodium fluorescein eye drops, and make the corneal surface after 2 or 3 times. The tear film is stained and can be started when it is blinking. Not suitable for the crowd Inappropriate people: people with corneal lesions.
